New Rec Center

It was announced a few weeks ago that a new recreation center will be built directly down the street from our Picket Lane II subdivision. Here is a copy of the Article published in the Tooele Transcript Bulletin by Sarah Miley:


"Tooele Valley residents who have clamored for years for an indoor recreation center may soon get their wish. A Layton-based organization has announced plans to build a 70,000-square-foot rec center with 10 courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool and several other amenities on the northwest corner of SR-138 and SR-36 in Stansbury Park.

The Utah Sports Academy Community Center is being proposed by the nonprofit Utah Sports Academy, founded by Lewis Lofton, a former pro basketball player who once suited up at Weber State University.

Utah Sports Academy officials estimate construction and first-year operating costs for the project to be between $11 million and $12 million — a funding package they are still in the process of putting together.

Plans for the center include five full basketball courts, five full volleyball courts, the main pool as well as a specially designed wading pool for youth and special-needs athletes, weight and exercise rooms, a wellness instruction classroom, a refreshment and food court area, a resident pediatric physical therapist/sports therapist, men’s and women’s locker areas, a clothing and equipment retail store, and administrative offices.

David Hansen, director of organization and community development for Utah Sports Academy, said the community center would be a private-public partnership. Utah Sports Academy officials have given presentations on the project to county officials, including county commissioners, the county planning commission and the engineering department.

Hansen said his group is in the process of securing the land, a 6-acre area on the northwest corner of SR-138 and SR-36 in Stansbury Park.

Dean Gonzales, vice president of the Utah Sports Academy — and Tooele’s Junior Jazz league director — has been working on building a recreation center in the valley for five years.

“We’ve been trying to put a program out like this for years,” Gonzales said. “I think now with all the new people coming in they’re wanting a center, a focus, a structure in sports.”

Tooele County Commissioner Jerry Hurst said he thinks this type of facility would be a good addition to the county.

“I think that it’d be fantastic if we could get it located here,” he said. “I think there’s a huge need. They’re talking about organized athletics and it sounds like a great facility.”

Those with the project have informally invited various sports partners, including Tooele Junior Jazz program, Utah Special Olympics Program, Stand A Little Taller (SALT) Program (Inner-city/Anti-gang), Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Utah, the Tooele County School District, LDS Church sports, YMCA sports and YWCA sports, to be involved in the community center.

Officials hope the facility could potentially play host to meetings, tournaments, meets, invitationals, Utah Special Olympics Clinics, and multiple recreation leagues, as well as aerobics, wellness and fitness classes.

“It’ll be a private-public partnership that will not only be unique but will bring a lot of attention to the area,” Hansen said.

Gonzales said operating profits made at the center will go back into center programs and improvements.

He hopes to break ground this fall before winter sets in and open in 2010, and he said the goal is to make a true community recreation center.

“The idea is to incorporate the whole community,” he said."

Thomsen

The Thomsen's home is going to be built on lot 207 at Picket Lane II. It is our classic floor plan, the Charles. The Charles floor plan was previously modeled in our Starside II subdivision off of Village Blvd. They are currently selling their present home in Stansbury Park and we will be permitting this home shortly.

Raunier Home

The Raunier's home is located on lot 212 at Picket Lane II. It will be our brand-new Angelina floor plan with the beautiful 'C' exterior. It will be located directly adjacent to the new park being constructed so stay tuned for updates on this one. It is currently being permitted with Tooele County and should be available for excavation in the next month.

Johnson Home

The Johnson's home is located on lot 230 of Picket Lane II. It is going to be our classic floor plan, the Juniper. This home is currently permitting with Tooele County and should be available to excavate soon.

Williams Home

The Williams home is on lot 235 at Picket Lane II. It is our brand-new Aaron floor plan and is going to be simply stunning. The foundation is complete and Travis says it will begin framing on Friday of this week. Keep your eyes on this one!

Zdunich Home

The Zdunich's home is on lot 232 at Picket Lane II. It is our beautiful, brand-new Alison floor plan. We are just beginning the foundation work, but check back next week to see the progress. Welcome Zdunichs!

Todd Home

The Todd's home is looking great. Duston has a minimalist design and has a great eye for light and design. He is a professional photographer (www.dustontodd.com) and knew exactly what he wanted in his home. Travis says the countertops will be going in next week and we will be prepping for carpet in plenty of time for the October closing. Notice the park directly behind the house. This park will include baseball fields, tennis courts, tot lot, playgrounds, soccer/football field, and miles of paved walking paths and over 200 trees.

Manson Home

Everything is starting to take shape now. The countertops were being installed today and the HVAC company was putting the registers over the ducts. Travis says the carpeting will be installed next week and that will leave final touch up work and cleaning in time for the November closing.

Welcome

I would like to welcome all of our current, past and future home owners to the new blog site where I will keep you all updated on the homes under construction, available homes and any events we may be having in our Stansbury Park communities.

First, I want everyone to know a little about myself. I am Scott Longnecker, the Sales Associate for Richmond American Homes at Stansbury Park. In 2003 I graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Facility Management and a minor in Management. Immediately after graduating I went to work with a regional home builder based out of Gainesville Georgia. I completed a lot of design work and development work on the homesites my customers already owned.

After gaining some valuable experience here, I moved back to Utah and started working for a builder in Salt Lake City. I worked there for two years and sold homes in three of their communities located in: Herriman, Syracuse and North Ogden. It was also during this time that I started graduate school at Weber State University (WSU).

I now and have worked with Richmond American Homes in Stansbury Park for over 2 1/2 years. I recently graduated from WSU with a Master of Business Administration degree.

I have a wonderful wife named Heather, and two little girls named Hannah and Ella. We reside in Kaysville, Utah.
